Johnson and Broms observed that the common approach to manufacturing – mass production – requires management to plan and schedule work, manage inventories, and deal with inevitable changes to priorities. They described this activity as an ‘information factory’.
It is a place that works with information that is abstracted from work. Because of that it can have a phenomenally negative impact on the sustainability of the enterprise.
